Freestyle Diamond Painting: Boots with Kick

Love cowboy boots? Give them extra kick and style with SPARKLE! It’s possible, not to mention really easy, with Diamond Dotz Freestyle gems and mediums.

You can add color and sparkle to your favorite boots (or other shoes, sneakers and sandals) by applying Dotz Stick adhesive onto the areas you’d like to decorate. Follow stitching lines or other designs that are already there with the Dotz Stick – like the stars on these boots – and then adorn with Freestyle gems when the Dotz Stick has dried. That’s really it!

DIAMOND DOTZ FREESTYLE DIAMOND PAINTING SUPPLIES

Before diving in, get to know the parts and pieces of the Freestyle diamond painting collection. The key items are quite simple to understand, and once you’re acquainted with how they work, you will want to put a bit of sparkle on everything! (And we don’t blame you.)

First, the Freestyle diamond painting gems. These are the most exciting part of the range, because it’s the gems that deliver the color and sparkle. The Freestyle gem collection includes just over 450 individual gem colors – something for every look, that’s for sure! It’s composed of color groupings so you can select by shade. Peruse the gem collection and make your color plan.

Along with the gems, you’ll need the Dotz Stick brush-on adhesive and Dotz Guard sealant. These are the two mediums you’ll use to adhere the Dotz to the boots, and then protect them once they’re applied.

You’ll need a couple of other basic supplies: craft tray, stylus, wax caddy, paint brush and a palette (we used a ceramic plate).

PLAN GEM PLACEMENT, APPLY DOTZ STICK & GET READY TO DOT

Take a look at your boots and decide where you want to add the sparkle. Our boots had embroidered stars on them, so it was a natural choice for us to apply the Diamond Dotz Freestyle gems to the stars to make them pop with color.

So, pick the area you’d like to dot (the stars in our case), and use the paint brush to brush the Dotz Stick onto those areas. The Dotz Stick adhesive should consistently coat the design areas. Apply two coats, letting dry fully in between each coat. Let the final coat of Dotz Stick dry until it is clear and slightly tacky to the touch.

DECORATE TO YOUR HEART’S DELIGHT!

Pour the Diamond Dotz gems into the craft tray, load your stylus with wax, and begin dotting, covering the areas on your boots where the Dotz Stick was applied. Continue dotting, switching Dotz colors as you like to create fancy patterns and details.

You can refer to our general dotting instructions for tips on working with the wax/stylus/Dotz; the application process is the same even though you are dotting “Freestyle” versus following a charted diamond painting design.

PROTECT YOUR KICKS WITH DOTZ GUARD

When you’ve finished having fun applying all those Dotz, apply an even coat of Dotz Guard sealant to the dotted areas of your boots to seal and protect them. The Dotz Guard eliminates exposed adhesive and keeps the boots lint and dust free.
