MAKE A CUSTOM FALL TABLESCAPE WITH DIAMOND DOTZ FREESTYLE

Gathering around the table is a cherished fall activity – it’s chilly outside, there are holidays to celebrate, family is near. Create a special place around the table that is filled with your favorite things, and perfectly coordinated – it’s fun to do with Diamond Dotz Freestyle diamond painting. With the accessories and decorations of your choice, plus a couple key Freestyle products, you can add sparkle, color and pattern to your table.

SPARKLE EVERYTHING!

Let’s get ready to sparkle! Celebrations around the table are a signature of the season, and there is no limit when it comes to creating a tablescape that is truly one of a kind. Just check out your favorite retail shop and you’re sure to discover an abundance of clever items that are begging for some personalization.

Many of the holiday items popular at craft stores are purposefully unadorned and waiting to be personalized using your favorite craft technique – we’re talking about Freestyle diamond painting!

GET INSPIRED: PLACE SETTINGS

Each family member or guest seated around the table will need his or her place set. When it comes to place settings, there are so many ways to make them special. You can opt for a single theme that brings your whole table together in unison, or, have fun making items that are specific to each guest, but that are perhaps tied together with a color story or pattern.

We went straight up FALL for our place settings, choosing to embellish wooden napkin rings and silk leaves for each setting.

More ideas: other items ideal for embellishment include fabric napkins, plate chargers or placemats. A personalized name card is another great idea and a wonderful way to use Diamond Dotz Freestyle diamond painting products. (Nicknames are welcome!)

GET INSPIRED: CENTERPIECE ACCENTS

Once your concept for each place setting is complete, think about what you can do with centerpiece accents for the rest of the table. Again – there is no lack of ideas here. Table accessories and decorations are wildly popular, but the fun comes in how you decide to marry the parts and pieces and make them your own.

We used a small raw-edged wooden tray, assorted plaster pumpkins, a glass votive holder and more silk leaves to complete our FALL theme. We let the colors of the silk leaves and pumpkins determine our color story for both the glass votive holder and the tray.

While we went traditional with our fall table, don’t be bound by the norm – anything that you can dot, you can use as a tablescape! (Are those wheels turning?)

CREATING A CUSTOM TABLESCAPE: TIE IT ALL TOGETHER WITH DIAMONDS

Here is what our wooden tray, plaster pumpkins, silk leaves and napkin rings looked like before we embellished them with diamonds. Again, the pumpkins and leaves led the way when it came to creating the color story.

It’s helpful to lay all of your surfaces out and plan your projects before getting started. Set the items out in an actual place setting, and stage the accessories for your centerpiece as well. Doing this will help you visualize how your look will come together.

CREATING A CUSTOM TABLESCAPE: GATHER SUPPLIES & PICK DOTZ COLORS

Armed with ideas, you’re now ready for the exciting part of the Freestyle diamond painting process – picking your Dotz colors! Fortunately you have a lot of choices when it comes to choosing your Diamond Dotz Freestyle gems, as there are 400+ shades to choose from.

When you land in the gems section of the Freestyle product page, you’ll notice a color chart with 15 color families. When you click on each individual color family, the full range of shades within that family will be revealed. For example, the Orange family has 15 individual shades within it! So, click on the color family of your choice to see all of the shades within. Have fun picking your Dotz colors!

Gather other items needed for Freestyle diamond painting: Dotz Stick, Dotz Guard, craft tray, stylus and wax caddy. These are the basics you’ll need every time you Freestyle diamond paint. (Hint: keep them handy and well stocked!)

APPLY DOTZ STICK BRUSH-ON ADHESIVE

Apply the Dotz Stick brush-on adhesive following the information in the full tutorial we pointed you to at the beginning of this post.

Like the way we covered only half of our tray in diamonds? Here’s a tip: use painter’s tape to mask off areas of your surface that you do not plan to cover with Dotz, or to create stripes, shapes, etc.

GET DOTTING

Apply the Dotz of your choice, again following the guidelines in our full tutorial.

Here are a couple tips for the patterned napkin rings and tray we made for our tablescape:

• Once the Dotz Stick is tacky to the touch and ready to begin dotting, get creative with your pattern and placement techniques.
• To create the diamond shaped pattern, we worked carefully to line up the Dotz diagonally as we dotted. Remember, it’s Freestyle diamond painting – so as the name suggests, don’t be afraid to dot freely! A little imperfection is actually perfect and adds to the handmade look of your finished pieces!

SEAL WITH DOTZ GUARD

Seal with Dotz Guard sealant, applying it only to the areas that you dotted. Let all of your projects dry completely before handling them and arranging them on your table. (Patience, friends – we know it’s tempting to start decorating!)

GATHER & ENJOY

The last part of this project needs no instruction. This is the part where we tell you to pull a chair up to the table, look at the loved ones around you, and feel great about the warm and hospitable space you have created!
